Orphaned at the tender age of six, IMKINGJAMES discovered solace and strength in the arms of his grandmother, a devout Christian. Music became his refuge, with early explorations on the saxophone, clarinet, and flute in grade school, paving the way for a rhythmic teenage exploration through drums. The classrooms’ desks transformed into impromptu percussion instruments, showcasing his innate talent.
High school unveiled another facet of his skill set. IMKINGJAMES organized talent showcases and guided aspiring artists in crafting their initial singing cassette tapes. The self-taught piano virtuoso further deepened his musical prowess in a YMCA gym, composing love songs and evolving into roles as a praise and worship leader and minister of music, leaving an indelible mark on churches and bands across the East Coast and Southern United States.
The year 2007 marked a significant milestone in IMKINGJAMES’ career, as he garnered four Grammy nominations for his collaborative work with Janel Nicole. A member of the Philadelphia Grammy Chapter, he solidified his presence in the music industry.
Venturing to Los Angeles in 2017, IMKINGJAMES initiated the “Follow Your Dreams Movement.” This heartfelt endeavor aimed at supporting underserved artists in Skid Row resonates with his belief that pursuing one’s dreams is the key to personal greatness, with hope acting as the guiding light that keeps souls shining bright.
Beyond his musical prowess, IMKINGJAMES took on the role of a designer, birthing King Luxury Apparel in the City of Angels. His creations, described as “the clothing your higher self would be wearing,” bring together elegance and luxury, making a statement fit for any red carpet.
